For-credit, academic prep ESL program
For students whose first language isn't English and/or F-1 students, we provide a credit, academic preparatory ESL (English as a Second Language) program to help you succeed at Montco and beyond. Among other services, you'll receive an interview, tutoring, academic and cultural advising.
Our coursework includes:
- Three semi-intensive classes that introduce basic English vocabulary and pronunciation and practice in speaking, listening and writing;
- ESL Basic Writing I and II to prepare you for English Composition I;
- Vocabulary Development I and II;
- Oral/Aural Skills to help develop your listening and conversation skills.

004 | Beginning: study basic verbs (be and have), present verb tenses, basic vocabulary and learn to write sentences | 6 |
005 | Low Intermediate: study past, present and future tenses as well as simple and compound sentences, write short paragraphs | 6 |
006 | Intermediate: study all verb tenses, modals, non-count nouns and articles. Also work on sentence structure and longer paragraphs | 6 |
009 | Oral skills: study academic skills such as note-taking, small group work and presentations. Also
work on pronunciation THIS IS NOT A REQUIRED CLASS but it is a prerequisite for some Communication Studies |
